Members are advised to be extremely careful with respect to email invitations to provide leads. Over the past few months, a significant number of members have complained to the MFAA about lead generation businesses, some of which appear to trade under a number of names. For obvious reasons, we will not name them.
Unfortunately, the one business most frequently complained about is not a member of the MFAA.
Reportedly, the business owner(s) is very persuasive and a number of MFAA members have signed up. Unfortunately, the MFAA has no indication of whether or not that business has provided satisfactory leads to members.
In all cases the complainants had paid fees that varied from a couple of hundred up to many thousands of dollars for leads.
In some cases, a few leads were provided but the complainants stated that they were promised leads that did not eventuate. In the wash up, our members have usually had to resort to legal action either through the state consumer affairs body or through the courts, to recoup their payments.
In a significant number of complaints, the “lead generation” business did not provide any leads at all and refused to provide a refund - until legal action occurred.
The moral is – make sure to do your homework before buying any service, including lead generation services.
